#5 Karas

Otoha – The Karas Amulet/Armor

Quite frankly one of the best animated OVA’s I’ve ever seen.

Karas, though not revolutionary in terms of plot or characters, looked freaking awesome. It shows what anime can be like if it’s given a large budget and a storyline that facilitates lots of action scenes. Hell, I’ve seen the series twice and I still have no idea about half of what’s going on as I’m too busy looking at the screen in awe. The fights are FANTASTIC and I advise any fan of action anime to grab this series.

Reasons why the Karas Amulet/Armor rocks:

• It makes for sentai style transformation scenes that don’t look drawn out and retarded.
• The armor designis freaking fantastic. It’s a stylistic mesh inspired by reptiles, samurai and all sorts of things associated with the ancient Far East.
• The user of the amulet can turn into an actual fighter plane <— sounds less cool than it really is.
• Swords are cool. Shining swords that can cut through anything are better.

Though the above reasons may not completely jusify me putting this in the Top Ten, it’s one of those things you have to see to believe. Check out my four part AMV series on Karas, and you may get a bit more of my meaning. Yeah, I know they’re not the best in the world, but I think they do nicely illustrating my point here.

It’s times like this I wish I was better at making AMV’s and wish I had a decent computer so I could get a proper editing system and plague teh Internets with them. Also, damn Youtube and its sucky video compression.
