Woah. I didn’t think it would be this good.
Spoilers below.
Well, after having heard about The Dark Knight EVERYWHERE from all the people living in the USA and Australia, my anticipation for the movie didn’t reduce any as I was already looking forward to it. I did feel like after hearing and reading peoples thoughts on it, I was going to be slightly disappointed. Wrong!
I’m going to start off with the problems I have in the movie. At times, some of the dialogue is a bit corny; I especially didn’t like Gordon’s narration at the end. And Christian Bale’s Batman voice was laughable until you got used to it. It sounded as if he’d been chainsmoking 24 hours-a-day since he was 8. There was some incredulity on my part when they introduced the “Sonar” system; how could you process the millions of signals from phones in a central city like Gotham? But other than those few things, I loved everything else about it. The acting was top notch from every actor/actress. I especiall liked Heath Ledger’s Joker, having just the right balance of insanity and flat out sadism to make him really creepy. It’s a real shame that he’ll never play the role again.
The progression of the movie was really good, developing at each point which kept you waiting to see the outcome. It’s a good thing they kind of brushed over Batman turning himself in, or it may have gotten extremely boring very quickly. The fact the movie focuses more on the fight between the Batman and Joker rather than Bruce Wayne himself was also a plus; Bruce Wayne is meant to be a persona, a facade, and I’m glad that they decided to limit his part in the plot. And what a plot. It always keeps you second-guessing what’s going to happen with nail-biting moments accompanied by that singular sound from whatever instrument that was (guitar? violin), such as on the boat. Speaking of which, it was great to see the citizens of Gotham, and even the criminals, overcome their basic urges for survival. Great moment to watch.
The action in the film was fantastic. The fighting was well done, the parts where Batman was flying were great to watch, and the chase scene was epic. I mean, who has a car that can seperate into a bike with a 360 degree rotating front wheel? The music was consistently great with the darker feel of Batman Begins permeating through.
Rather than getting to analytical, I’m just going to see that the film completely lives up to the hype; its so gripping, and surprising as a lot of people just die out of nowhere, that you’re kept interested throughout out the entire 151 mins of the film’s runtime. If you haven’t seen it, do so NOW.
Nooo, I don’t like corny!!! 😦
@blissmo
I said a BIT corny. At times. Infrequent times.
…
WATCH THE MOVIE!
It was indeed awesone
What was interesting is that the movie had no real focus. But that wasn’t a bad element.
Batman was not a main focus (which is good because he had enough development in Begins).
The Joker and Dent almost got more time than him.
The movie was great from start to finish, and there was not a single dull moment anywhere. Wished they fleshed out Two Face’s story a little more though.
Sounds good! I still haven’t watched it though! ^^ I’m planning to wait another two weeks just so the theater wouldn’t be so packed. Besides, getting seats in the good movie theaters were I live is next to impossible now since it’s such a popular movie.
@Avisch
The Joker was one of the best villains I’ve seen in a movie for a long time. Someone who’s just does it for the giggles is hard to understand, let alone defeat. But, its a superhero movie so Batman had to win (somewhat, there was a lot lost along the way). And Dent’s fall from grace was interesting to watch; even before he had become Two-Face, we where given subtle hints at his future nature through times when he acted rashly (like that whole kidnapping thing).
@Shin
I felt that they managed to handle Dent’s story very well; it’s no easy feat to take a hero, break his mind, turn him into a villain, have him be evil and then kill him all within one movie and make it not seem completely rushed or irrational. The audience identify with Dent by the end of the movie; at least, I know I did.
@biankita
Anticipating this, I myself went in early to get a good seat and as a result of it being so packed, I didn’t even meet my friends until afterwards ^_^.
I still find it hard to treat it seriously despite the fact that it was a good watch. Perhaps philosophy and a batmobile do not mix well but I am still impressed in some ways.
It’s a man in a batsuit fighting criminals which flip coins and wear make-up. But it’s deeeeeeep
