Yes, I’m taking this as a chance to plug one of my favourite anime series, REC.
WATCH IT NOW.
My opinions on some of the greats of the past season’s anime music (i.e last couple of months).
So let’s see, we have the awesome, campy (not to mention so very SHINY) OP single from Macross Frontier, “Lion”. Easily the best of the series. There will be no more mention of Macross Frontier in this post, as there is just too much good music from the series to count, I simply selected what I believe to be the best song. Hopefully, now the fancamps will stop arguing with the tag-team that happened in this OP. Haha, just kidding, they’ll be flaming each other to the ground for months even after this show is over. Also, the last few bars of the song are the best part, IMO. Triangles and resounding guitar riffs FTW.
Code Geass R2 OP, “WORLD’S END” by Flow. Accompanied by some good animation which rightly foreshadowed the events of the second half of the series (WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY SPACE BATTLES?!), it comes only second in the whole series to the original OP of Code Geass, Colours (Also by FLOW, who simply pwn). It even has Orange-kun’s epic STORM OF LOYALTY.
Soul Eater ED2, Style. from Nishino Kana. This song’s just so addictively upbeat and the effects used on the lead singer’s voice gives it a slightly sultry feel. Plus we had the ZOMG CUTE!!! version with Maka and Chrona. IT’S JUST SO GODDAM CUTE!!!
From one of the most disappointing series this season comes one of the best OP singles, with Birdy The Mighty: DECODE’s “Sora” by Hearts Grow. I’m a sucker for a good beat in a rock track, anything remotely like what’s in this OP automatically gets my vote. Add to that a great guitar riff and and a great lead, and the combination becomes WIN. Too bad the series is so terrible at the moment -_-. Also, Senkawa sucks, even in the OP. All he does is run.
Loser.
If you don’t believe me…
I rest my case.
DISCLAIMER: I know nothing about musical terms, so I’ve probably got a few things wrong here (and before), like the meaning of “riff” something. This should really be at the end of the post. Or the start. Whatever, either way, song rocks, get it.
And finally, something which almost none of you will know about unless you’re suffering through the pain of watching To-LOVE-ru along with me. The second ED, kiss no Yukue by Anna, is something so far above and beyond the quality of the series that it’s ridiculous. If the creators could get the ED so right, WHY NOT THE REST OF THE SHOW?! Anyway, the animation’s quite unique (and not just in a wet, hot girls kind of way) and everytime I listen to the ED it seems to justify watching an entire episode of this crap.
LOL just kidding, get the single, series is horrible, will bash it to a bloody pulp in future. In the meantime, enjoy the ending and the Number One Man In The Universe posts.
Omake:
Though these singles haven’t technically been realeased yet (read: they haven’t shown up anywhere despite bleeding fingers worth of internet surfing (read: checking Nipponsei)) we have four honourable mentions:
World Destruction’s OP, “ZERØ” by AAA, is made of fucking awesome techno beat rock mix win, so I’m DYING to get my hands on this one (EDIT: THANK YOU TOKYO TOSHO). Another show, where the OP/ED outclass the series.
Blade Of The Immortal may be horribly boring and have the music direction of blind, deaf red rabbit, but the song “Akai Usagi” by The Pillow Book (Makura no Soushi) is so well animated (awesome fighting) and the song so suiting to the theme of the OP that it almost doesn’t matter. I say almost, as I dropped this series at episode two due to it, well, sucking. I also learned that since its debut, the series has taken two weeks off TWICE lol.
Witness the amazingness of Xam’d Lost Memories’ “Shut Up And Explode” by the Boom Boom Satellites. Words cannot describe the awesomeness of this song. Except for RUN AWAY RUN AWAY RUN AWAY RUN AWAY AND GET THE ALBUM NOW! And maybe the fact that it’s techno funky rock engrish awesomeness.
And lastly, from Xam’d yet again comes one of the best ED’s I’ve heard in a while. “Vacency” by Kylee just fits with the nature of the ending animation (which is amazing, BTW). It’s another Engrish song that somehow manages not to sound weird and it’s the perfect way to end the show after each episode, especially with the way the animation flows into it at the end.
All of these shows are just things I thought stood out from the anime I’ve been watching for the past half-season; if it’s not here, I haven’t seen it or it just didn’t cut the mustard. If you think there should be something here, say so and I’ll check it out. Otherwise, MAH LIST RULES SO DON’T BE QUESTIONIN’ IT.
Also, Prison Break is back, fuck yeah.
But Xam’d has such a good opening.
Also, I’m just spamming here a bit, because I was surprised at seeing that somebody likes REC. Back then, it was over-subbed and over-blogged but nobody seemed to appreciate it really. So *highfives?*
Eh? Nothing from Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu? But there’s dancing meidos 😦
*Gasps* How dare you not acknowledge Life Goes on Sides K and D???!!!
@Sasa
You’re right about spamming as your comment doesn’t make much sense; I said the OP was good. (MUST GET COMMENT EDITOR SOMEHOW). REC was just a short, cute, funny show that really captured my attention.
@ffviiknight
The meidos cannot hide the fact the song’s mediocre.
@issa-sa
The good song cannot hide the fact it’s YAOI. Plus the song’s not that good. Contradictory statement ftw.
FLOW’s a great band, shame they sing the opening to a trainwreck.
@xephfyre
A Trainwreck in a GOOD way.
Yeah come on. It’s nice crashing.
I love Xam’d’s op aswell.
RUN AWAY RUN AWAY x 53
How are they going to top that opening?
Answer: they can’t.
Oh yeah I should watch REC.
