OH GOD IT’S THE DESTRUCT CODE KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT!!!
CRAP, IT TURNED OUR BULLETS TO SAND AND BLEW UP THE FREAKING WALL FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!
For about 8 minutes in this episode, Kyrie becomes fucking awesome. He pwns EVERYTHING that dares stand against him, blowing things up, electrifying people and making them disentegrate into sand. A cold, heartless tool for making the world detonate; the Destruct Code is actually more than I could have wished it to be. Too bad the ending was so predictable and awkward.
Looks pink to me.
As if it were ghey.
But before that, I’d like to talk about some good points in the episode other than GAR Kyrie. Ria’s infatuation with Kyrie was pretty well explained, though hard to swallow. I doubt that a little girl would keep a crush for over 300 years. Unless they were extremely hawt. Which Kyrie was nawt.
Do NOT mess with the bear.
Short sections of the action scenes were surprisingly well done too, and some general animation sections went up in quality as well. Maybe that’s where the budget went from episode 2 (god, that looked awful). Oh, and I almost got to see Kyrie get blown up! Unfortunately, he didn’t get blown to pieces, but considering this happened later:
I think I’ll let it slide.
So Morte stops the Destruct Code (i.e Kyrie) with a kiss. LOVE POWA!!! Seriously, though I knew the way it was going to end, I didn’t expect there to be such a useless montage of characters who had absolutely no part in the overall plot or saving the world whatsoever. It tries to wrap eveything up too quickly and left me thinking both “What, that’s it?” and “Thank God, that’s over”.
So, what was good about World Destruction?
- The 8 minutes of GAR Kyrie. After the cowardice he’d displayed during the entire series, this was extremely refreshing.
- Music was okay, I guess. The OP was especially awesome, though.
- Toppi provided for some comic relief. Which was intentional, BTW, rather than just the naturally retarded nature of the show.
- The naturally retarded nature of the show. I sincerely hope that half the things in the show weren’t meant to be taken seriously, because otherwise, the writing was just terrible (except for episode 12, which had some welcome character developement).
- Toppi and Morte are good characters in and of themselves; though not well-developed or surprisingly deep, or even that intelligent, they were unique enough to keep me interested in them.
- Lia. Cute/Savage tsundere. That’s all I need to know.
And the bad?
- Almost every other character in the show except for the above mentioned, were unintersting, underdeveloped and a complete waste of time. The oneshots were especially bad; this series should NOT have been episodic, an overall plotline where hints to the main character’s (especially Kyrie) showed up in each episode would have worked much better. there were also some characters (like the fake WDC) that had potential to be good recurring presences in the show, but were completely wasted.
- Kyrie. He sucks. He is literally the wimpiest, wekest, most cowardly, ignorant, annoying, irritating, useless male lead I have ever seen, and most likely ever WILL see, in any anime. Those 8 minutes were all that saved him from complete condemnation in my eyes, but the fact he reverted back at the end irks me. Why we can’t have an extremely powerful Kyrie who’s kind and not retarded as well, I’ll never know. Also, his voice actor demonstrated that he can sound like a man for those 8 minutes, but instead we had to have him sounding like he’d been kicked in the balss for the entire series.
- The storyline was way too predictable. It should have kept the viewer guessing whether they were going to destroy the world or not or, failing that, make it less completely obvious that we were going to have an “And everything was exactly the same!” ending (which is pretty much a reset in my mind).
- Huge leaps in logic and the general idocy of everyone in the show.
- Animation was ridiculously inconsistent, good at times, great at others and QUALITY at key points. Thankfully, this was kept to a minimum.
Production I.G’s best work to date.
It’s amazing how my first completely blogged series is one of the worst from this season. Sure, it was funny because of how stupid it was, but there needs to be something more to keep me interested in a show. I’d never recommend this to anyone, unless you want to feel like killing the main lead multiple times in the show.
Final Awesome Kyrie, for the road.
you know what… when i saw the PV of this show, i wanted to watch it because it looked so freakin’ sweet and romantic (apart from the seiyuu list).
watching the first two episodes then reading your reviews made me think i’ve been had by that preview because either, you hate lovey-dovey stuff that you didn’t write it up or they never had one until that kiss thing.
Hmmm…Morte and Kyrie…sounds like Mortem (death) and Kill to me. I guess the theme of destruction goes down even the deepest levels, don’t you think?
Kyrie is actually derived from “Kyrie, eleison,” which is a common Greek phrase in Christian prayers, meaning “O Lord, have mercy.” It’s probably better known by its Latin counterpart, “Domine, miserere.”

OMG WHERE’S THE KISS? WHERE’S THE KISS????? I’m sooooo gonna watch this NOW *runs off to download*
you cant tell they are kissing it is at a bad distance so you cant tell
Your OP was surprisingly moe, Omisyth. =x
[…] one of the few times I’d wished a series would have ended with the world being obliterated (like World Destruction). The music was good, except for the fact that what happened in the episodes was didn’t suit […]
@biankita
There were absolutely no hints of romance in the show betwen the two up to this point. But if there was, I still would have made fun of it.
@7
Do I see another Latinist on the blogosphere?
Probably not, but interesting ideas oon the roots of their names. Not sure how Toppi would fit in though…
@kanzeon
*sigh* You fangirls and your pairings…
@xephfyre
IT’S TOO CUTE!!!
The game is better then the anime. Kyrie acts like a man and then becomes his Gar pink self later.
World Destruction was a huge disappointment to me as well. I pretty much started watching it because the name sounded cool, and the ONLY reason I kept watching it up ’til the end was because I realized, for as much as the series bored the hell out of me, I wanted to see how it ended.
I actually didn’t really care much for Morte, either. If you take her as a character apart from her various issues/her desire to destroy the world, she’s pretty cool. But her reasons for wanting to destroy the world, especially how they persevere in the face of lots and lots of evidence that it’s not as bad as she’s convinced it is, were so dumb I just couldn’t like her. (I also hated how Kyrie and Toppi consistently failed to ask her WHY she wanted to destroy the world. Seriously, that was the first question out of my mouth when Morte made that declaration.) Also, I wanted to like the silver-haired guy because I liked his personality/design/voice except he got no worthwhile development so he ended up being incredibly boring too. And Kyrie didn’t bother me so much, but you’re definitely right in that he was completely useless as a lead. Other than these points, I agree with you 100% on everything you said.
I hear the game is better, though, so I’m glad to hear that. Wish they hadn’t changed the title to Sands of Destruction; although it certainly makes sense given context, World Destruction just has a certain eye-catching appeal to it.
Reading the part where Kyrie was the “He is literally the wimpiest, weakest, most cowardly, ignorant, annoying, irritating, useless male lead I have ever seen, and most likely ever WILL see, in any anime.”
I remember watching/playing *cough*talesofseries*cough* games where the main protagonist is the starts off weak then becomes strong in the middle/last parts of the game
Hey! If he wasn’t the… that you said, then the scene with GAR Kyrie will be less exited!…at least this is what I think.
I taught I’m the only one who invented the name Kyrie in my manga/comics. xD But when I watched World Destruction, I’m happy coz there’s also named Kyrie. =3 and also in Wikipedia.
i love this anime and i dissagree with you cause Kyrie is really really hot especially with red hair
(I realize this is years old but, whatever.)
Kyrie is a whimp in a legitimately funny, refreshingly original sort of way, IMO. There is no pretense of him being more than a normal person. He never (or rarely) whines about how he isn’t strong or hero-like, he just accepts it, which sets him apart from many a weak lead male character. Since, you know, normal people accept being normal everyday. Kyrie has the added bonus of being fun to hang around. I don’t really know why people assert he’s better in the game. Yes, a little less weak, but the tradeoff is a little more bland.
Taste is a finicky thing, what makes one person says “that sucks” is why another person likes it. I wrote off game and music reviews completely years ago for this exact reason. My point? Well I found the latter episodes, 12 and 13, which garnered at least some praise from you at parts, to be especially boring unlike the 11 that preceded it. Any show with a first episode like this anime taken too seriously is going to get a person feeling like getting on the Internet to blogging on its poor points. I tell people not to watch an anime (or *anything*) and say “how many tropes can I apply to this?” or “what other show can I compare this to?” It’s nice to take in content in its own right when it’s remotely possible.
My point is, your complaints on World Destruction are mostly valid, but maybe you wouldn’t have taken such “offense” as it were if you had just lightened up a bit when watching. Lol.
First of all this blog sucks… Plain and simple. I disagree with you 100%…This anime was an amazing tale that was both funny and serious. It pulled me and several others that I recommended the show to, right into the story. There is romance and action and comedy and sadness. Sure they could’ve kept it going but that would have ruined it. sorry the length wasn’t to your liking but there are a lot of good short animes out there. Second Kyrie is meant to be a wimp because you NEVER expect in the end for him to be a kick ass all powerful guy. If you say you predicted it you’re a liar… Him being wimpy is meant to throw you off. Sure I realized him and the “destruct code” had some kind of connection but I never expected that. And like the above quote said, he is different from other wimpy male leads because he accepts that his isn’t hero-like, plus he isn’t always a wimp, he saved several lives during the show. He can be brave when he has to be. Also the animation was fine. If someone has to be so stingy to pick out such insignificant parts of the show such as “oh they didn’t draw this part as nicely and good as other parts so now this show sucks” then they shouldn’t watch anime. It added a sense of originality and comedy and fun to the show. It’s that simple so shut up about that. Kyrie was plain awesome (cute as a blond, hot as a redhead) Toppy was the coolest little “dwarf” bear ever. So cute and so kick ass at the same time. Morte was cool, and I liked almost everything about her. there was defiantly romantic build up, I saw that from episode 1. Also i thought all the characters were interesting so I don’t get where you think they are not. they were needed for the plot but not important enough for a whole episode for each revealing an entire life back-story. You shouldn’t have been such a stick in the mud while watching it and should of just kicked back got sucked into it and enjoyed it for the good show that it is. Oh and the thing that really irked me was your comment of Kyrie’s voice actor. Yeah his name is Todd Haberkorn and he is an amazing voice actor. He doesn’t sound like he was kicked in the balls, he sounds perfectly fine. I love almost every show he’s voiced in and he knows what he’s doing…I would like to see you do better ( and I know you can’t cause he is one of the best ) I won’t recommend you watch D. Gray Man because he is the main voice actor in that one and that really just sucks for you cause you’ll miss out on a really amazing series with that one (best one I have seen in the last 4 years) ( TO ALL OTHERS I RECOMMEND D. GRAY MAN… IT IS FREAKING AWESOME! )
So these are just some of my comments on your blog. It irritated me…a lot. I can’t stand when ppl don’t know what they are talking about and just dis something without knowing. You clearly didn’t fully grasp full understanding of the show. I recommend re-watching it and lightning up a bit when you do. To anyone who reads this blog, don’t listen- its a good show and you should give it a chance. It’ll surprise you. I’ll stop now or my comment will be just as long as the blog. Peace out people of the anime loving world!
I didn’t like what they did with the animation, either. They completely changed Kyrie around from how he was in the game. In the game he has as spine, can fight pretty well and is still a gentle, understanding person.
I don’t mind if characters are weak, as long as they realize that they can do something if they work hard. It’s character development. People seldom stay weak forever. They learn and adapt.
