Technically three weeks, but meh…
I missed out the last few week’s highlights because there wasn’t actually much anime I watched nor stand out blog posts. This is mostly because the holidays are over and I’m back at school, but I think I can find the time to return to the regular schedule. For now, though, I’ll just be covering anime and will get back to the normal format next week.
Anime Highlights
Shows mentioned this week:
Michiko to Hatchin as of episode 12
Soul Eater as of episode 41
Zettai Karen Children as of episode 40
Kara no Kyoukai as of episode 1
Michiko to Hatchin – MINDF*CK.
Michiko to Hatchin’s a consistently good show, but not one where you’d expect such weirdness. I understand that Michiko’s got a high fever but who the heck sees dolls having sex under a moon with a telescope stuck in its face? It was a gloriously strange moment amid the already strange episode.
Soul Eater – MINDF*CK
One of the best episodes of Soul Eater to date and there wasn’t even one of the astoundingly well animated fights that the show’s famous for. Stein is easily my favourite character from the show so seeing most of an episode dedicated to him being crazy was awesome. There were little subtleties in the episode which were great at emphasisng his madness, (like signposts changing to direct him towards wherever insanity was) which just made it even better. And that devilish laugh at the end was just pure genius.
Zettai Karen Children – The Great Fleet!
Nothing much to say other than it was one of the funniest episodes I’ve ever seen of anything ever. It was just an unrelenting barrage of the best comedy elements in the series that almost had me doubling up in laughter.
Kara no Kyoukai – Eyes of Destruction.
Finally got around to checking the movies out and while not nearly as mindblowingly awesome as some made it out to be, I was still impressed. I don’t think I’ve seen anyof ufotable’s other works, but they’re doing a great job with the movies. Me being an action whore I loved the rooftop fight (or should I say, rooftop SLAUGHTER) and I’m looking forward to watching the next 5 movies. GO GO SHIKI!!!
And that’s it for this week. GO WATCH ZETTAI KAREN CHILDREN FOR IT IS AWESOME.
I enjoyed both of those mindfucks. M2H’s one really did come out of the blue though. It makes an interesting parallel with the bullfighting bit where we suddenly went from serious to silly. Except this time it was serious to crazy.
Every time you post something like this, I remember to watch something…this time it’s Kara no Kyoukai.
You are now my ‘reminder’…wuahaha the pressure is on for next week! 🙂
Actually, I think that moon is a shoutout to A Trip to the Moon, an old B&W French film. Here’s a picture of the scene:

@coburn
I love tone shifts in anime especially when they’re from ANYTHING to crazy.

Glad to be of service
@Zan
Woah, nice call. Just goes to show how influenced the show (or at least the director) is by other cultures.
