This episode was downright ridiculous. In fact, I was so enraged wuth what happened that I deleted it almost straight away and I have no screencaps with which to appropriately express my rage. There were golden moments and horrible moments, the good and the bad all mixed up into an annoying, frustrating RAAAAGGGE soup and then thrown at my face. Maybe I’ll look at this post tomorrow and realize that I’m being needlessly angry but for now, I shall simply write about… THIS.
The Good
Doujou X Iku came up pretty heavily in this episode, and it was handled beautifully. The chamomile garden was a peaceful and significant image which had an overall feeling of warmth, security and care to it.
The portrayal of the effects of war (though I’m in no position to talk about it) as Iku trembled after shooting was done well also; it seemed realistic and addressed one of the most basic things in the show: “War is not a game”.
The meeting between Komaki and random Media soldier from previous episode also demonstrated how there’s a reason that both sides want to fight and that not all of the members of the opposing team are heartless monsters, which brings me too…
The Bad
What the hell was up with Iku’s fantasy? After demonstrating that the enmy isn’t pure, unbridled evil with the meeting of two opposing sides, they screw it up by portraying them as demons with eyes from the pits of hell. Not even just her fantsy, but the way the Media Force reacted was just stupid; how does “they will have lost their sense of rationality” turn into “they will go crazy and charge at the defense line for no reason with no weapons”, where they should have been easily picked off by forces positioned further back by the Library Corps with guns that fire bullets?
The hell was up with that old woman-chief whatever trying to burn down the documents? There’s probably a reason behind it, but from what I heard she thought it was the fault of the documents for existing that led to the mistake of passive resistance. I just think the woman is crazy, just flat-out batshit insane.
And finally we get to the cream of the crop of stupidity. Genda. You stupid idiot. I liked your stubborness, your commanding tone, your “screw the rules for the sake of justice” attitude. And then you get shot because your retareded enough to stand in front of a bullet-proof encased art exhibit! You yourself said it was surrounded by bullet-proof glass. I would have even managed to accept you silently standing in front of it, a wall of resistance aginst an oppresive, corrupted world, a sign of solemnity and a truly heroic character. Or at least take a damn dash at the guy to stop him or something, anything, except what you did. You disappoint me most of all.
I’m pretty sure that Genda’s dead as a doornail, but I didn’t watch the previews so I could be wrong. Doujou’s probably perfectly fine, but if he’s gone it could have been one of worst ways to kill a character, but could also become awesome through the rest of the Corps handling of the death. Okay, I’ve just made about six consecutive spelling mistakes so I’ll end this here saying that Toshokan Sensou must redeem itself in my eyes since it has been getting increasingly ridiculous as of late. And I despite what I’ve said and what happened in the ep, I really, really hope that Genda’s alive. Really ;_;.
>>bullet-proof encased art exhibit!
It was?! HOW FUCKING LAME!! What an idiot, Genda is. Actually, I didn’t like this episode much at all.
Genda and Doujou must survive, screw what blissmo wants! (and yes that woman is bat shit crazy and the world would be better off without her and just about half of the current population)
I think there’s been much discussion over Genda’s ‘stupidity’ elsewhere about the laws of not apprehending anyone who hasn’t actually shot at you yet or something. I didn’t agree with his way of (not) handling the situation, but the tension was high enough then for anything to happen.
I just laughed at Genda’s silliness and over-GARness in this episode, but hey this is Toshokan Sensou we’re talking about! I’ve come to accept all the silliness and just laugh at it, though I certainly did feel the whole tension present in the episode amidst all that 🙂
@blissmo
I’m normally not a very negative guy but… this was… Ugh, forget it, or I’ll end up ranting again.
@ issa-sa
Oh she’s not THAT crazy…
(Bunny suicides, love of blood and gore)
On the other hand…
@usagijen
There is a difference between GAR and stupid…
Genda crossed that line when he stood up to protect bullet-proof glass.
@-ssa-sa and omisyth:
LOL! I know you guys can’t live without me XD
“What the hell was up with Iku’s fantasy?” that wasnt her fantasy, she just saw a glimpse of when people stop being people and becomes animals… in war there is nothing but rage and madness…
“The hell was up with that old woman-chief whatever trying to burn down the documents?”
she just found out her ideals of passive resistance was a tool to undermine the library… what would you do if you found out your believes were being manipulated for some one elses purposes?…
“And then you get shot because your retareded enough to stand in front of a bullet-proof encased art exhibit!”
i admit that was idiotic, but i am sure he wasnt that much of an idiot, I am sure he had a plan… i hope so…
