Beyond The Grave: Cerberus+Coffin

The epitome of BADASS.

The only reason that I disliked the Gungrave anime was because it didn’t have enough action and focused on that funny thing I had no idea existed in anime a couple of years ago, character development. I have a feeling if I were to rewatch it now, I’d see it in a much better light. The game was full of madcap action, craxy combos and amazing specials, but the anime didn’t have nearly as much ridiculous fighting, and that’s the only reason it’s this low on the list. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that the basic concept of Cerberus/Coffin combo, two HUGE guns and The Coffin filled with ammo and even a machine gun.

Reasons why Cerberus+Coffin rocks:

• The entire design. It’s skeletal, gothic and just eminates a sense of death and destruction. Mixed colours of red for blood and white for bone only add to the downright scary and imposing figure of Grave and his weapons.
• It’s name. Cerberus, the demonic, huge three headed guard dog to the gates of Hell itself. Would you want to mess with anyone who looked like Grave and had guns like those? (Hint: NO)
• The Left Head Gun and Right Head Gun produce armor piercing bullets the size of fists.
• I’ve already mentioned the fact The Coffin is multifunctional, not only contaning ammo and a machine gun, but making for a useful shield and is more easily wielded by Grave through chains attached to his arms making it a good melee weapon also. But I didn’t say that there was a freaking ROCKET LAUNCHER in it as well.

Now, you may be questioning why the guns are called Cerberus and yet there are only two of them. That’s because the third and final head in the Cerberus series is owned by this guy:

If you ever wanted proof that Grave’s weapons are awesome, here it is (though it’s from the game).

Unfortunately, Fangoram is from the second Gungrave game, Gungrave Overdose, and doesn’t show up in the anime. But I’d suggest to any PS2 owner who’s a fan of CRAZAY AKTION to grab both Gungrave and Overdose now, as it’s kind of cheap and severely underrated. As for the anime, I can’t give much of a verdict as my opinion is skewed by my naive youth, but these guys seem to like it (except for that one 3 on MAL ORZ).
